Al Frank was born and raised on a Fleckvieh dairy farm in Germany. Al went to trade school, became a mechanic and worked for 6 years in a factory. In those years Al realized that he wanted to be his own boss and farm. In October 1980 at the age of 23, Al came to Manitoulin Island and made an offer on an abandoned farm 6 kilometers south of Manitowaning. Al, his wife Anita and their 12 week old daughter Anna became landed immigrants in April 1982.
Those early years farming were difficult so Al started to work at the local Freshmart store making sausage, a hobby he still enjoys today.Al and Anita opened a bed and breakfast on their farm in 1991. In 1998 they bought Red Lodge Resort. While
renovating the lodge they raised four children, Anna, Sarah, Kathleen and Daniel. During his tenure at Red Lodge he met Al Rolston who encouraged him to get a real estate license which he completed in 2003.
Al’s wife Anita passed away from cancer in 2008 and he sold the lodge in 2009. Currently, Al and his second wife Laura with their son Mathis and loyal farmhand Dale are farming together at their Beef Cattle farm at Hilly Grove south of Manitowaning. Al brings a wealth of farming, hospitality, renovation and
building experience to the table. If you’re ready buy or sell a farm or business, make use of Al’s expertise in these specialized real estate fields.
